Twelfth-century Toledo concentrated work translating Arabic science into Latin, and an Arabic-derived Elements is commonly attributed to Gerard of Cremona. Yet Adelard’s earlier translation and several adaptations and teaching versions also circulated. Europe did not receive one identical book through one door; different textual families were compared and combined.
