His major memoir on Abelian integrals was assigned to Cauchy and Legendre, but no report appeared and the manuscript was lost. It was recovered in 1830 and published in 1841.

He died of tuberculosis at 26. Two days later came Crelle’s letter saying that a position had been secured for him in Berlin.
