His c. 820 Al-Kitāb al-Mukhtaṣar fī Ḥisāb al-Jabr wa-l-Muqābala (the Compendious Book on Calculation by Completion and Balancing) created a new mathematics for handling unknowns systematically — algebra. His Latinized name, Algorithmi, became our word algorithm.
